Asproguate was founded in 2014 for the purpose of growing coffee that was not only better for the environment, but that also provided greater economic stability for the region. A majority of Asproguate's farms are women owned, and nearly all of Asproguate's members are of indigenous Kaqchikel and Tz'utujil
