The dress consists of a skirt and a long coat. It is made from purple silk taffeta. Two small pockets adorn the overdress coat. One small pocket was intended for the watch, the larger one for a folding umbrella. One of these is included. Ribbons on the inside allow the skirt to be gathered in a polonaise style. The period between 1870 and 1880 is known as the "third polonaise" in the history
