Smoking kills We can assume that the lungs on the left, the tarry, almost charred-looking air bags, from a smoker, led to their premature demise through COPD (chronic obstructive pulmonary disease, a condition that used to go by the name of chronic bronchitis with emphysema, also occasionally referred to as COLD, chronic obstructive lung disease and chronic obstructive airway disease, COAD), or perhaps they succumbed to lung cancer, cancer of the oral cavity, the throat, the trachea, the oesophagus, the stomach, the live, the pancreas, the kidneys, all of which have raised incidence in smokers
To some extent, individuals have to answer that question for themselves, taking both potential personal benefits and risks into account
We also focused on the nine toxicants (acetaldehyde, acrolein, benzo[a]pyrene, benzene, 1,3-butadiene, carbon monoxide (CO), formaldehyde, nitrosonornicotine (NNN) and 4-( N -nitrosomethylamino)-1-(3-pyridyl)-1-butanone (NNK) recommended for mandated reduction in cigarette smoke by the WHO Tobacco Product Regulation Group (WHO TobReg) which are also part of the HPHCs U.S.FDA list 53,54,55
2.2 Mock-up cigarette packs design We designed the packs based on the authors previous study (13), which pointed out that Filipinos found plain packaging better at preventing smoking and making smokers quit (13)
