Michael Ancher became known for his depictions of Skagen's heroic fishermen and their dramatic work at sea. Michael Ancher came to Skagen in 1874 at the age of 25, and was the only visiting artist to settle permanently in the city. At the beginning of the 20th century, Michael Ancher actively participated in the founding of Skagen's
